Rasmus Hamrén

Application Specialist at NEP

Rasmus is an Industrial PhD student in AI and a development engineer at Nordic Electronic Partner (NEP). His academic credentials include a background in “dependable systems” from Mälardalen University. Between 2018 and 2020, he worked as a junior software developer at Volvo CE before joining NEP. Rasmus is deeply committed to AI projects and has been involved in projects using UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) as the next generation of road planning support and data collectors. He explores how AI can provide sufficient support to the system to fulfill these types of tasks. Recently, Rasmus has focused on exploring the potential of Edge AI in the maritime sector to improve wave recognition. Through close collaboration with Nordic Engineering Partner (NEP), Rasmus has systematically tackled the technical and operational challenges of implementing Edge AI in this area. Using data collected near Norrtälje along the coast of Sweden, Rasmus is working to develop and validate AI models that can revolutionize ship automation and decision-making. In addition to his research, Rasmus is a passionate boat racing enthusiast, holding titles such as Swedish champion, former Nordic champion, and former European champion in offshore 3B. He has also worked on developing boats with Smuggler in Norrtälje. Rasmus represents a combination of academic excellence and practical competence. His commitment to innovation and continuous improvement makes him an invaluable asset to NEP and the broader technological and maritime community. We look forward to hearing more about his research and the profound changes he anticipates in the maritime sector.
